We know that some people are very particular about an eatery being halal or otherwise.

All these while, many people think that Sushi King is halal but sorry to have to break the news to you that it’s NOT HALAL.

This photo was taken at Sushi King. As far as we know, a place will not be given with any halal certification if it serves anything with alcohol and/or pork and any other non-halal ingredients.

Also, no pork served and/or no alcohol served do not mean a place is halal too.

If you are very particular about halal or not, here you go… Sushi King is not halal certified.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide whether you want to go there to eat or not and depend on each individual perception of halal as some people do not consider a place halal if it’s not certified by JAKIM.

Hope this post is useful to you.

Do you know Singapore Chicken Rice has a new branch?

It’s located at Hock Lee Shopping Centre, easily located, just near the main entrance.

The interior is quite different than other branches.

It’s so colourful and divided into sections with different designs.

You can see 3 different interior designs in this post alone.

As usual, the food we ordered… No prices and exact names available because forgot to keep track of ofthem but the pricing and naming are similar in every branch.

Steamed chicken rice.

Roasted chicken rice.

Mushroom noodle (this isn’t the exact dish name but these two words can be found in the actual dish name).

Dumpling chicken noodle (hope the name is correct).

Mixed vegetables, could find 2 prawns in there.

There you go… The latest branch of SCR in town. I think it’s the biggest branch too.

Went to Singapore last month, visited Sentosa. Saw Garrett Popcorn and out of curiosity, we decided to buy some to try. It’s just outside of Universal Studio.

A Tradition…Since 1949.

Very nice plastic bag, you have to ask for it though.

Chicago Mix(SGD8, small). It’s actually a mix of CheeseCorn(yellow) and CaramelCrisp(brown).

CheeseCorn was odd but CaramelCrisp wasn’t bad. Overall, the popcorn wasn’t bad, big and hardly found any seed that didn’t pop unlike what we usually found in local popcorn.

I don’t think you will be in time to get the RM1/piece chicken now. It’s Sunday, I’m sure it’s gone in no time at all branches. Don’t worry… You can try to join the craze this coming 2nd February! Be sure to go early, limited pieces available.

This photo was taken at 1.17pm on 28th January.

Here’s something to take note, it’s for dine-in only and only 5 pieces per bill. So do not expect to take away unless you can’t finish your fried chickens, you know what I mean… I don’t have to make it sound so obvious right? You all are very smart to figure it out hehehe…

Have fun!

Attention to cheese lovers! Ending on 29th!! Quick before it’s too late!

Say Cheese!

Cheese is a type of food that not many can gate. In fact, it is adored by many and exists in many complimenting forms, be it as an one part of the ingredients for pizza & pasta or as the ‘leading role’, in cheese cakes and so on. We crave for its gratifying taste as it melts in out mouth or the affectionate aroma it carries hot from the oven.

According to cheese.com, there is evidence that cheese had actually existed as far as during the prehistoric age. There is no claimed or known inventor of cheese and it is more likely that cheese was ‘accidentally’ created when milk coagulated or thickened. Today, cheese comes in hundreds of different varieties, made from either raw, skimmed or pasteurized milk of the cow, goat, sheep, and even those of buffalo, horse and camel.

Still, when it is time to indulge, one just have to give in to the calling of food food and that’s exactly what Grand Margherita has to offer with its Say Cheese promotion at the Orchid Garden Coffee House, happening 20th till 29th January 2011.

The Buffet lunch that pays tribute to ‘everything cheese’ starts off with 8 enticing cheese tapas. Chicken wings with Blue Cheese Dip, Risotto Croquettes with Mozzarella and Smoked Turkey, Smoked Salmon Cheese Roll and Mozzarella in Carrozza with Anchovy Sauce are amongst the ones not to be missed out.

Adding a pinch of Japanese to the buffet, there’s also the Cheese & Chicken Floss Maki as well as the Cheese, Cucumber & Crabstick Maki.

For main course, diners are set to be spoilt for choice as the buffet line expands to host more than 12 wonderful dishes. Braised Beef Brisket with Danablu Butter & Creamed Potato, Oven Baked Lasagna with Chicken Bolognaise & Cheese, Gran Moravia Crusted Cod Loin with Sauce Vierge as well as the Slow Braised Lamb Shank on Soft Polenta with Cheese are some of the leading casts for the show.

Not forgetting the simple yet equally satisfying selection of cheese with condiments and freshly baked bread and cheese stick for diners to mix and match with their favourite types of cheese.

At the show kitchen, our chefs are also readt to serve you your choice of pasta, be it spaghetti, penne or fettuccini stopped with your favourite type of sauce.

The gastronomic journey ends with a high note at the Dessert station where diners would find Coffee Cheese Cake, Green Tea Creme Brulee & Sweet Fruit Chutney, Oriental Carrot Cake as well as the Classic Cheese Cake ready to satisfy. Our pastry chef is also ever ready the Dessert Station to fold out piping hot Cheese Pancake.

Say Cheese is a Buffet Lunch happening at Orchid Garden Coffee House daily from 20th - 29th January 2011. The buffet lunch is priced at RM45++ and seats can be reserved by calling 082-423111 ext 1158/1109.

When we were at Singapore, we went to Astons Specialities for your dinner on the first night at Sembawang Shopping Centre. The place was packed and we had to queue.

Astons started off in a coffeeshop along East Coast Road. Due to its affordable price and tasty food, it’s now very popular among Singaporeans. There’s many branches around Singapore.

Let’s see what we ordered:

Prime Sirloin (SGD11.50) with two sides (Mashed Potato and House Salad). See how thick it is? We had it medium rare.

Grilled Fish with Herbs (SGD7.50) with two sides (Pasta Salad and Onion Ring).

You can dine here if you fancy affordable and good quality western food.
