金芳阁海鲜(Golden Court Seafood)is located at Rock Road.

Went there for the crab of course after seeing the offer in the newspapers.

Went there around 3-4pm, that explains the emptiness of the place.

Only RM13.80/kilo, this is the offer I mentioned just now. It’s for small sized crabs, if big ones, you will need to pay RM18/kilo.

Lemongrass clams(small), RM10.

Mongolian Chicken, RM10.

Sea Cucumber Soup(RM10), the portion was enough for 3-4 people.

Going to share some eateries that I’ve been to during my KL and Genting trip few months back. Expect to see some eateries from out of Kuching.

Stayed at Theme Park Hotel, Genting Highlands and the room came with complimentary breakfast for 2. The breakfast was at Restoran Happy Valley Seafood. If I’m not mistaken, they are famous for their chili crab. Too bad we didn’t get the chance to dine there for dinner.

Just showing you some of the food available for the breakfast buffet.

There were quite a variety. If you prefer continental breakfast, you can get it here.

Even Chinese, Indian, and Malay style breakfast too.

Which one do you prefer?

The also have a variety of drinks for you to choose.

New Hornbill BBQ Steamboat has started its operation for quite awhile. It’s located at RH Plaza.

This place was previously known as YUAN WEI BBQ STEAMBOAT (源味烧烤火锅). Now, it’s new management and new menu.

There are many types of seafood for you to choose, big head prawn, big crab, and mussels too! These are actually what attract people to go there.

Besides that, if you prefer to BBQ your seafood, you don’t have to get your hands dirty, there are people there to do it for you. If you want to eat fried chicken, you can also get them to fried it for you.

I’m sure many will be tempted seeing this! You don’t usually get this at steamboat places in Kuching.

The cloth pegs are for you to mark your own food when you send them to BBQ. Imagine so many plates of food there waiting for them to cook and there is no way to identified which is yours or otherwise.

You get individual pot so it’s more hygienic.

The pricing:

2 persons - RM27.80/person

4 persons and above - RM26.80/person

No food wastage - 5% discount

New Hornbill Steamboat is opened daily(including public holidays) from 6pm-11.3-pm.

If you’re in Kuching and looking forward to try out the seafood here, Top Spot at Permata Carpark is one place that is easier to locate and located at the city centre compare to other seafood places. It’s located just opposite Wisma Ting Pek Khiing.

We had the opportunity to tried out the food at one of the stalls there called ABC Seafood. It’s easy to locate. You will not miss it once you reach the place.

Here’s the food we had, no price available though. When you order, you either order in kilogram or number of people eating.

Bamboo clam cooked with curry. You can only get this clam during its season, you can’t get it all year round.

Mixed vegetable with cashew nuts and prawns.

Buttered prawn.

Sea cucumber soup.

O Jien aka oyster omelette.

Lemon fried chicken.

Midin cooked with belacan.

ABC Food Centre is located at Jalan Chan Bee Kiew, the shoplot behind EON Bank. If you know the Public Bank there, you should be able to spot it, it’s no so far behind it.

During the day, it’s just your average kopitiam. At night, you can enjoy seafood there.

Anyway, we didn’t order any seafood there though. We just ordered some food for dinner. Let’s see what we had ordered. No prices available.

Tomato noodle, the locals fondly known it as tomata mee.

Kailan with oyster sauce.

During the day, you can find belacan beehoon there besides the usual food you can find in any other kopitiam.

Red House Seafood Restaurant is located a Robertson Quay, Singapore. This is one of them, another one located at East Coast Seafood Centre, Singapore.

Red House Seafood Restaurant at Robertson Quay has a cosmopolitan feel to the interior.

The modern interior designed by the acclaimed architects of GreenhilLi.

There’s a very huge ceiling fan called the ‘Big Ass’ fans measuring 7 metres in diameter. Not in the photo though.

Even the menu is red.

This peanut was given to us while we wait for our food. It’s not FOC. It’s charged along with the wet towel. It’s automatically charged to your bill so don’t be surprised about it.

We ordered Chinese tea to go with our dinner. The tea was free flow but I don’t have the price with me.

Let’s see what we had for our dinner:

Signature Creamy Custard Prawn(SGD7 for 100gm)

Braised Spinach Tofu & Honshimeji Mushroom topped with Crisp Conpoy (small, SGD14)

New Zealand Tender Venison on Sizzling Hot Plate(medium, SGD27)

Red House Mee Goreng(small, SGD12)

Braised Ee Fu Noodle with Assorted Mushroom and Chives(small, SGD10)

Sambal Kang Kong(small, SGD10)

Don’t you think the prices were a bit steep? It’s OK to indulge once in a while and the food were pretty good.

Sam Chai is located at Sematan. This is one place you can get seafood in Sematan. Sematan town is small, it’s very easy to find. It’s located at the row of shops facing the jetty. Sematan is about one and half hour drive from Kuching.

Let’s see some of the food that we had but too bad we didn’t order any seafood that time due to some unforeseen circumstances but everyone that dined there ordered lots of seafood for lunch. Sematan is known for its very cheap and affordable seafood and some people would just drive all the way here to have seafood.

Fresh coconut juice.

Chili for the kueh tiaw and noodle we ordered.

Taugeh Fried Kueh Tiaw (RM2)

Taugeh Fried Noodle (RM2)

Long Beach is situated at Batu Feringghi. It’s quite a popular place among the locals and the tourists. Our friend recommended us to have our dinner here.

The drinks we ordered: grape ice blended, orange ice blended, pineapple ice blended, and watermelon juice. The ice blended in only RM4, and the juice is RM2.50(if not mistaken). Very cheap right?

Following are the food we ordered but forgot about the prices.

Oh dear… Forget what this is called. It’s a kind of popiah, not sure is Hainan or Hokkien hahaha…

Mushroom soup.

Garlic chicken chop(I think this should be the name), very nice.

In Penang, their o jien is wet type. They are very generous with the oysters and the price is so much cheaper than what you can get in Kuching.

Fried kueh tiaw, Penang is famous for their fried kueh tiaw but this is the only fried kueh tiaw we had when we were in Penang.

Our friend recommeded us to order this. Not sure about the name. Maybe it’s buttered grilled prawn.

That’s all for our day 2 dinner.

Oct 22

Reached Penang a bit late due to flight delay. Since our flight was at night, the only thing we could do is eat but many places closed already. We had supper at a coffeeshop somewhere at Air Itam(if not mistaken), the name is called East Coast something-something. Can’t give you much details about the place because the locals brought us there and all we thought was eating ;p

The following are the food that we had, no price available but rest assure that Penang food is way so much cheaper than Kuching. Pork is used in many Chinese food. Most food you see here contain pork except the seafood.

Penang’s Kueh Chap. It is different from what we have in Kuching. The soup isn’t very thick. They even have duck meat in there. Totally different from what you can get in Kuching.

Mee Jawa, it’s cooked by the Chinese. You see the cha siew there? It tasted very different from what you can get from Kuching also. It tasted more like belacan beehon to me hahaha… We noticed that in Penang, as long that it’s mee dish, you will definitely get bee hoon along with the mee.

Duck rice, it’s just duck rice.

Tai Luk Mee.

Hokkien Char.

BBQ Fish, the sambal is really tasty. They BBQ the fish with curry powder unlike in Kuching which the sambal is directly BBQ along with the fish.

It seems like lala is everywhere in Penang. This is very delicious!

There you go… End of part one of the food. Part two will come soon.
