Thanks to BCCK for the invitation. You can consider having discussion here about Mesothelioma lawyers or anything under the sun with your friends or business associate while dining.

Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), which opened its doors for the first time on August 8, is preparing for a wholesome Ramadhan experience covering a sumptuous buffet selection which changes daily.

The month of Ramadhan is a one that is reserved for reflection, devotion to God and self control. It is said, that only through fasting, can man understand the sufferings of others around the globe, and be enlightened with a new found appreciation of what they have. Through this, believers are reminded of their social responsibility to share and give to those who are in need.

Many look forward to Ramadhan because of what it represents, and also because of the food bazaar, where local and festive delicacies are sold under the same roof. In multi ethnic Sarawak, for the Muslims non Muslims alike, the latter is an annually anticipated event.

Over the years, Ramadhan has been marketed as a food fest, with the promise of break fasting to a varied spread. At the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), they are offering a truly fulfilling berbuka puasa experience. BCCK’s team of chefs has in store, Ramadhan menus and which provide for a balanced dietary intake.

Their chefs will prepare all dishes with the freshest ingredients, adhering to stringent HACCP and Halal guidelines. Your family’s most memorable buka puasa will just happen in BCCK.

According to health tips from dieticians and doctors in general, refined carbohydrates or fast-digesting foods such as dates may be better taken at Iftar to rapidly restore blood glucose levels, after a long day of fasting.

Dates are an excellent source of sugar, fibre, carbohydrates, potassium and magnesium and have been recommended since the days of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as a good way of breaking the fast.

Taken from a sample menu of what their chefs have in store, imagine breaking fast with Tunisian, Egyptian and Saudi dates, followed by a refreshing serving of Air Kelapa Muda or Apricot Juice. A selection of assorted nuts, dried fruits and local kuihs will also be served.

In nourishing the mind and body throughout the month of Ramadhan, normal quantities of food from the major food groups: bread and cereal, milk and dairy product, fish, meat and poultry, bean, vegetable and fruit should be consumed.

In line with this, the Main Course in BCCK’s Ramadhan buffet (which changes daily) serves items such as Nasi Tomato, Kari Ayam Madras, Daging Rendang Tok, Ikan Goreng Masak Acar, Udang Goreng Cili Kering dan Gajus, Sotong Goreng Berlada, Gulai Lemak Sayuran, Tofu Sen Gen Masak Sayuran, Itik Panggang, Satays and Kambing Panggang.

BCCK’s Ramadhan buffet menu also includes Appetisers, Fruit Pickles, Side Dishes, Local Greens and Sambal, Soups, Desserts and a selection of Assorted Thirst Quenchers. Menu for BCCK’s Ramadhan Buffet changes daily.

As this is BCCK’s first Ramadhan, this one-of-a-kind experience can be enjoyed at just RM55++ for adults, and RM25++ for children between four to 12 years old. BCCK’s Ramadhan Buffet starts on August 22 to September 15, 2009 and vouchers are now on sale at BCCK.

Managed to pay Kuching Festival a visit again few days back and took some photos of the food we bought.

Kerabu kaki ayam (Chicken feet salad), spicy, sweet and sour. You can get them at stalls operated by restaurant especially the those selling Thai food.

O Kueh, O is yam in Hokkien.

You can also get Chui Kueh (Chui is water in Hokkien) there.

You can find this at the stall that is operated by a restaurant specialized in Teochew food.

Steamed chocolate bun that you can get a stall selling those char siew pao, dao sa pao and so on.

Please do not expect me to tell you which stalls are these food from. All I want to show is the variety of food available there and not helping any stall to do publicity, it won’t be fair to other stalls and you will have to go there and discover more. Furthermore the fair is not big and you might even find other things/food that might interest you.

As you know, Kuching Festival is not only about food but there are also trade fair, I wonder you can find spa filters there or not? Don’t think I see any when I’m there or even other type of filters.

The food fair will end on 23rd August so you still have time. Enjoy the food!

As you know, Ramadan is coming aka the fasting month. During this month, for the non-muslims, it would mean food and more food as there will be many stalls set up at the Ramadan Bazaar around Kuching.

Ramadan Bazaar 2009 will be held at two venues.

(1) Jubilee Ground carpark
(2) Stutong Community Market carprak

Hmm… How come Satok doesn’t have? I thought the biggest bazaar usually will be at Satok.

You will get halal cooked food, dinks, and festive goodies. Do not expect to find best wrinkle cream there though but you will get best food for sure.

The bazaar starts from 22nd August - 19 September, 2pm-late evening daily for the whole duration of the bazaar.

WOW! Kuchingites will be spoilt by all the choices of food from Kuching Festival and Ramadan Bazaar.

Aug 12

Previously, I did mention that the food fair might end earlier. Don’t worry, it’s not. I’m told that the closing ceremony is on 15th August but the food fair will go on till 23rd August. There’s no changes. You still have chance to go if you want to but maybe you might want to wear a mask when you are there to avoid getting sick due to H1N1 or the haze.

Anyway, as promised, here are some of the food photos, not much as I didn’t manage to go there as often as I thought I would. There might be more coming, we’ll see if I manage to go there again.

Usually we get the wet-type o jien at Kuching Festival, this year there’s the crispy type. Also there are more o jien this year too.

Cuttlefish with special chili sauce from the stall you can buy belacan bee hoon.

As usual, you will find 2 stalls selling Taiwan sausage there. This time, there’s more if not mistaken but the other one is selling the burger if I’m not mistaken.

Some Chinese pastries that you can find.

This is something from one of the new stalls, multi flavoured fruits mua chee.

That’s all for now. Will be going to Singapore next week and there will food that I had in Singapore for coming posts. I hope I don’t need diet pills when I got back ;)

Anyone has any suggestion on where to find good food in Singapore?

Kuching Featival Food Fair is here again. It started on 31st July and will end on 23rd August. I heard that they will end it early due to the fasting month but I’m not sure how true this is.

I know… I’m late in posting this. I’m sure many of you went there already. Some people are skipping this event this year due to H1N1.

However, when I was there, I don’t see anyone using mask to prevent getting infected with H1N1. Everyone was going around as usual.

There are more stalls this year.

This means more variety of food.

There are more stalls at the ex-stage location. The stage is moved to the man-made lake.

If you want to dine there, you might want to think twice. There will be many people waiting to get their hands on the tables. You cannot go there alone, someone has to look for or reserve a place while someone go buy food. It’s not easy to find a place to sit and eat later at night. Weekend will be worst.

Going there before 6.30pm on weekdays should do the trick. Plenty of places are available. Still be sure to have somebody reserve the place. You might need to be earlier on weekends, maybe around 5.30pm-6pm.

There’s one strategy that might work though, it’s been quite a popular strategy all these years. Stand next to the table and wait until the people at the table are done with their food, then quickly secure it. However, beware if some other people is also waiting for the same table, it’s on first come first serve basis else you have to be aggressive by snatching it away from those who are there first. This is not recommended for sure.

Like it or not, that’s how people get their seats. So it’s up to you to go for the aggressive way or otherwise. You might also consider sharing a table with other people if they have empty seats there because sometimes the bigger tables are occupied with less number of people, kindly ask them and I’m sure they will let you sit there.

Food photos will come in later post, I’m in the process of collecting them.

Enjoy the food fair!
