Managed to go over to Kim Bay HK-Macau Restaurant few days back for food tasting. It’s located at tHe Spring. Not hard to find, it’s at the same row Starbucks, just walk to the other end and you will find it.
Don’t have much to share though… Just show you some food that I had tasted. These food might or might not be in the menu. Anyway, enjoy the food photos.

Have a happy holiday!

I have asked the person in charge, he said egg tart will be later stage. They will introduce more things when the official opening is announced as now they only do soft opening. Reason for soft opening is that they want their staffs from bar and kitchen to get familiar with all things so when official opening is publicize on paper, people will come and will not disappointed them. So now their working hours and menu are temporary. I heard the Dimsum from HK will introduce later month, actually many other exciting dishes like Cheese baked rice and other authentic HK n Macau food will be introduced too . EXCITING! At least we have Kimbay which is similar to KIM GARY from KL in KCH now!

i was told that the foods are quite expensive, a normal fried rice already RM8++… somemore drinks, would cost around RM15++, i don’t think it’s suitable for everyone, especially for those lower to middle income earners…

The food is just ok, nothing so special about it. The price is super expensive. I think it’s not worthwhile going there to spend so much money for that kind of foods. No specialties at all; i would prefer going to Causeway Bay. I think the foods there is a lot more better than Kim Bay and the price is not so expensive as well. And it’s a HK style restaurant too. ^^

Causeway Bay also bout the same price ler? I think cheaper go to Kopitiam, Rm5.00 can settle a lunch liaw. What i see good in Kimbay is that there are more to come. They will have dimsum soon as i was told. Their specialties are quite special actually. Just that the menu make you think its nothing special. Not sure you been to HK and Macau or not, but Kimbay food is really similar to them, i can say no different. As i brought a HK fren to Kimbay to try, he said good and no different from HK especially the YinYong tea. So i still go there often, i also study in swinburne so Near too. He he.

I think KIm Bay is just normal.. the environment is fine and the food is normal. but the price is quite high, i prefer to go causeway bay. comparing to HK, quite far behind. its local right>? same ppl as causewaybay i see?

Btw, ordered fried rice, but the rice is hard, mix together with frozen vege. and the vege is stil hard. The noodle soup tasted wierd too. duck served hot on the outside, but cold on the inside. means that its frozen duck? Milo ice, milk taste less milo taste. The coffee is stil ok. How come these food are serve at The Spring? abit out of standard. Not to be food critic, but comparable to even food & tea its tonnes nicer. pricey too.

Wah, didnt know Kim Bay got so many negative comments. I went with friends tat day to celebrate one of my fren’s birthday. We were group of 12 people, then pull all the round tables together, had food and drinks. All ok ler, not like what you guys said, so expensive, so yucky? Are we talking bout the same restaurant?
July 17th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Hi guys! Food critic= You stayed in HK or Macau for long? How do you know the food is far behind HK? My girlfriend is from HK, i have been staying there for awhile, the food are very similar to HK style. The taste are no different to HK, even Macau. I am waiting for the Portuguese Tart (Hopefully got lar). Btw, the chefs r from HK as i talked one of them while on my way to toilet.

been there 2 times..first time ordered fried rice… 2nd time lucky din order..fren order some noodles and fren said rather eat maggie mee. the drinks are ok. but the food really no standard..very disappointed. wont go back even you give me money.
July 19th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
hi Shriek, i agree with food critic. but maybe you are lucky, or mayb the food is not consistant. sometimes good, sometimes bad. too bad, we are the unlucky ones. i dined in HK many times before, the food taste is different. wont be overcooked, or undercooked. i believe got HK chef, but i cant believe those foods are prepared by HK chef.
July 20th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Aiyo…wah lau A! why so many comment. It is just another good spot to hang around in Kuching leh! Guys, you pay for what you get! I was there twice and food was OK. If you been to HK or Macau, the same type of food will cause you even more, unless you never been there and you compare with local store here, of course, its Kuching. Kuching people are a bit more “cat”. We have our expectation and hopefully, we can get a little bit more out from the owner.

it’s good to have comments to improve not only standard of the food, but also the name of the restaurant. Price is not the main point but the food is! when the food is tasty, people won’t mind to spend high price food nice food. but, when people complain about the food is pricey, means the food cannot match the price or vice verse. even though food are similar to HK or Macau style, but don’t forget, the restaurant is within Sarawak, it should catch the taste of the “cat”! this is what we call Chinese Food all the while; adaptation…

I was jz here for reading pleasure but when Nice Food Goer says that Kim Bay is similar to Kim Gary in KL, i think it’s still way far far away from near… I had cheese baked rice and Kim Gary’s is still the best. Kim Bay’s cheese is tasteless and the rice is hard as if it’s overnight leftovers. I’m sorry to say but once is more than enough as the 1st impression is bad…
