Reached Penang a bit late due to flight delay. Since our flight was at night, the only thing we could do is eat but many places closed already. We had supper at a coffeeshop somewhere at Air Itam(if not mistaken), the name is called East Coast something-something. Can’t give you much details about the place because the locals brought us there and all we thought was eating ;p
The following are the food that we had, no price available but rest assure that Penang food is way so much cheaper than Kuching. Pork is used in many Chinese food. Most food you see here contain pork except the seafood.

Penang’s Kueh Chap. It is different from what we have in Kuching. The soup isn’t very thick. They even have duck meat in there. Totally different from what you can get in Kuching.

Mee Jawa, it’s cooked by the Chinese. You see the cha siew there? It tasted very different from what you can get from Kuching also. It tasted more like belacan beehon to me hahaha… We noticed that in Penang, as long that it’s mee dish, you will definitely get bee hoon along with the mee.

Duck rice, it’s just duck rice.

Tai Luk Mee.

Hokkien Char.

BBQ Fish, the sambal is really tasty. They BBQ the fish with curry powder unlike in Kuching which the sambal is directly BBQ along with the fish.

It seems like lala is everywhere in Penang. This is very delicious!
There you go… End of part one of the food. Part two will come soon.

something to add, heheh.
the 4th picture right…its actually ‘tai luk mee’ instead of hokkien mee.
tai luk mee is very popular in KL esp. Petaling Str. whereas hokkien mee has reddish soup where they have prawns, pork and egg.
As for the fried mee that you mentioned they have bee hoon in it, its actually ‘hokkien char’ which means its fried bee hoon mee with prawns, pork and sometimes fish.
Yeah, when its a mee dish, you will get bee hoon with it. And when you order koay teow soup, you will get koay teow mee in it.
Just exposing you bout the great food here in Penang. ^^

Eric, thanks. LOL… Somebody told us it’s Hokkien mee, I also blur blur. Coz I remember when we were there we did have Hokkien mee but it’s not this big kind but not very sure, mixed them up already. That tai luk mee(didn’t know the name back then), before we went to Penang, we knew it’s popular in KL but didn’t expect to see it, so got all mixed up *LOL* Then the Hokkien Char summore, no wonder got all mized up. *LOL*

Haha, don’t mention.
I’m just a proud local introducing the great food here in Penang.
If you don’t mind I could recommend you some great places to have local food without having to go to the infamous Gurney Drive where foods there are especially expensive due to the tourist hotspot.
Hokkien Mee is basically found almost everywhere in any kopitiam in Penang, but the really delicious ones are hard to find. This is in my opinion, the best hokkien mee in Penang. However, the hokkien mee is slightly more expensive and you have to wait for about at least half to an hour.

Terengganu flats (Taman Free School) is another cheap yet good place to have your hawker food.
Enjoy your stay here in Penang, btw.
