It’s not easy to find food very late at night in Kuching or at dawn or wee hours of the day. However, there are places that you can always find food stalls open. One of them is at Petanak Market. This is one of the place you can get fresh produces in Kuching at wee hours of the day. They serve various kind of food for supper and to cater to vegetables suppliers, seafood suppliers, meat suppliers and late night customers(usually food operators, shift workers, lorry drivers) need of food.

Here’s one stall that is open till very late at night. Let’s see what they have:

Jade Post is located at Jalan Song Thian Cheok, there’s another branch at Jalan Keretapi. They serve Taiwanese cuisine, basically it’s Chinese food. Wi-Fi is available there.

Moly’s Place is located behind Habour View Hotel. They serve Malay food. You can get fast food there or you can also order from the menu. They have rice


The interior seems very homey.


Decorations on the wall.


Each table is identified with flower names.


Nasi Goreng Kampung (RM4). It cames with a sunny-side-up and bowl of soup.


Mee Moreng Mamak (RM4), very spicy. It also comes with a bowl of soup.

Sushi Bonanza started yesterday(21.4.2008). It’s the way Sushi King say thank you to their loyal customers. Go now! It will end this Thursday(24.4.2008). It’s an annual promotion.


Went there early so there wasn’t many people but I’m sure dinner time would be packed! All the rice based sushi on the kaiten will only cost you RM2. This is the best time to try out all those expensive sushi and also those sushi that you had never try before.


You only have 45 minutes to eat and one member can only bring 5 friends with them. Be sure that you don’t waste any food. You must finish whatever you take. It’s only applicable for dine in.


These are some of the sushi we had.


We had 39 plates of sushi!! They only total up to RM89.70 including the taxes(10% service tax and 5% GST).

Food Bazaar is located in tHe Spring.


There are many choice there, you can have Indian food, Indonesian food, Korean food, Japanese food, Muslim food, Chinese food, Western food and more.


Indonesian food. It’s from Gamelan, the indonesian cafe located at Simpang Tiga.


This Set 4 that includes rice, vegetables, soup, prawn crackers, egg and more. The portion is quite big and it’s only RM6.50, no tax.


Indian food.


You can have fast food here.


Chicken Brayani (RM6.50), promotion price in March. Not sure about the actual price though.


Strawberry Fruit Cocktail (RM4.20), also promotion price in March. The actual price is RM5.20.


Hot Plate is available there too. Hot Plate Rice with Traditional “BABA” Sweet Sauce Chicken(RM5.80), if you want to add an egg, it’s RM6.80.

Big Apple Donuts & Coffee is another franchise that is recently opened in tHe Spring, just opposite Starbucks. It’s been almost a week and the queue there is still very long. Everyone wants a piece of the donut! This is available in KL and also Sabah. Kuching only has it now.

Their donuts range:
Pink Panther, Duren Duren, Chocoring, Rolling Stone, Kiwi Blitz, Semi Glacier, Say Cheese, Go Nutz, Kimochi, Green Teaser, Chocoholic, Iceberg, Whitnut, Snowy, 101 Dalmation, Choreo, Spicy Flossy, Mango Tango, Glacier, Californian Almond, Moonraker, Chococinno and The Alien.

All together there are 23 types.


DONUTSS!! According to our source(we don’t know how true it is), the donuts here are smaller than the branches in KL and it’s RM0.30 more expensive than KL. How can?!?! You already increase the price, don’t reduce the size!

Shiloh is located at Travillion can be considered as a new place to dine in Kuching.


The bar and the lightings are very nice. There are lots of Christian related things in there. One bible verse is on the wall too.


I heard that the karaoke set is only for their church members to use.


The menu includes western food, oriental food, snacks, drinks, salads and more.


The drinks here are a bit limited. We ordered tea(RM2.50) and Ribena(RM2.50).

Dalight Food Court is located between King’s Centre and Queen’s Court. If you wonder where is King’s Centre, it’s just below the Simpang Tiga flyover. The food court is big, you will not miss it when you are around that area. If still can’t make sense where, just go to King’s Center and ask those around, they will be able to tell you where.

There are many types of food on offer by many stalls. You can get Chinese to Malay food.


It’s always packed during lunch or dinner time.

You will now pay more for your favourite mee meal as prices of the various types of mee will be raised by between 20 and 70 sen a kilogramme.

Wheat-based mee items affected were yellow mee, small yee mee, big yee mee, wantan mee, wantan wrapping and ‘dumpling’ wrapping.

The millers raised the price for the two types of mee by RM10 for each 25kg on March 20. Price of ground rice had also risen by RM22 for each 50kg bag while prices of other items like corn flour, sago flour, tapioca flour and high carbohydrate wheat flour fluctuated according to market demands.

Here’s the list of prices for mee items effective today:

Mi kuning (yellow mee) — up 20 sen a kilogramme

Mi kering (dry mee) — up 20 sen a kilo

Small yee mee — up 30 sen a kilo

Big yee mee — up 70 sen a kilo

Wantan mee — up 60 sen a kilo

Wantan wrapping (kulit wantan) (500gm packets) — up 40 sen per packet

Dumpling wrapping (500gm packets) — up 50 sen per packet

Keow teow — up 30 sen a kilo

Chu cheong fan — up 0.04 sen a roll

Laksa pendek — up 30 sen a kilo)

Laksa panjang — up 30 sen a kilo
