Hijau is located at BDC. You should be able to see it from the roadside on your left when you want to go to BDC if you are coming from the road below the airport flyover. It’s opened for business for months already. The atmosphere is quite unique.

Thought that it’s just another cafe in town but it’s actually a place similar to kopitiam but it’s much better than kopitiam. It was packed with people.

The interior design is quite unique. There are many stalls also, there are variety of food such as seafood, beef noodle, chicken wings, satay stalls and more.

The mini fountain lit up by the lightings installed there.

If you would like to buy things that are related to lanscaping or gradening, you can also buy it here because the owner of this place is in this business as well.

You have a round of beers with your friends there. The prices of the food and drinks here are similar to all those kopitiams out there. It’s quite hard to find parking places and place to sit because it’s always packed. It’s a place that you can hang out with your friends.

Kluang Station is one of the eateries you can find in tHe Spring. It’s just next to Starbucks. They serve local cuisine and if I’m not miskaten it should be a franchise. It can be considered a kopitiam where you can get basic Kopitiam food.

Let’s see what you can find there:

Nasi Ayam Merah, RM8.90

Nasi lemak, RM3.80

By the way, Kluang Station’s Kaya (coconut jam) is a very much sought after item for its quality taste and texture. Anyone tried it before? What do you think?

One more thing, they are pork-free.

You can visit Kluang Station website here.

2nd Home Eatery is located along Jalan Keretapi. It’s at the same row as Pearl Bridal Studio and NK Food Network(never been there yet though). They don’t have a name card so I don’t have much details about the shop.

The counter.

Let’s see what they have there. The food choices were quite limited at least for us.

Curry Noodle(RM5.50), the curry smell was strong but it’s not that spicy. However for those that cannot tolerate spiciness it can be quite spicy.

Mee Mamak(RM4.50), noodle fried with chili sauce. It’s quite spicy too for those that can’t tolerate spicy food.

Restoran Pondok Laguna is situated on the 1st floor of Crown Square. It’s not easy to notice it unless you go in using the side entrance at Mr. Ho’s Find Food. They specialised in Indonesian cuisines.

For dinner, they only open at 6pm. As for lunch, we’re not so sure. Forgotten to take note of the opening hours.

The interior of the restaurant. It’s a great place for family dinner. You can also use their VIP room if you prefer some privacy. However you have to make your reservation first. You can call them at 082-339868

If I’m not mistaken, you can have your wedding banquet here, the Indonesian way.

You will serve a small basket of keropok(RM3) after you’re done with your order. Not sure whether you can reject it or not as some places will charge you table fee even if you don’t want the snacks they send to you.

Once you done your order, they will also send the plate, napkin, fork and spoon to you.

Avocado Juice(RM6), Carrot Juice(RM4)

Sate Kambing(RM8.50), lamb satay. The gravy is very spicy. If you cannot tolerate spicy food, please don’t order this.

Soto Bandung(RM7), sliced beef with mixed vegetable and tang hoon soup.

Gado Gado(RM6), mixed veggie with peanut sauce. It’s similar to our local satay gravy.

Rendang Daging(RM8), beef rendang. This is a spicy dish also.

There are many new eateries mushrooming throughout Kuching. The Two Bananas is one of it. Not sure when it started business but I’m sure it’s not too long ago.

The interior. Black and red with many food photos hanging on the wall.

The menu. Do you think it’s funny? I know many adults will find it funny.

The drinks:
Lemon Barley, Ice Lemon Tea(RM2 per glass)

Thai Style Chicken with Rice(RM4.50). The sweet, sour and spicy sauce laced on the chicken nuggets.

Kam Hiong Sotong with Rice(RM5). Cuttlefish marinated and deep fried with their special recipe.

Overall, the prices of the food here are quite reasonable for place with air-conditioning.Taste wise? It would depend on each invidual.

Here’s the location. If you are still not so sure, it’s opposite Mayhua ice cream factory.

One of the famous Bak Kut Teh places in Kuching is now available at Ban Hock Road. Just next to Ting Noodle House.

Let’s see what they have to offer for 4 persons:

Rice, included in the set. Since there were 4 persons, they suggested us to order 2 sets of bak kut teh, each set for 2 persons.

The chili that is a must for bak kut teh lovers.

One set is the usual bak kut teh, RM13 for two persons.

Another set is dry bak kut teh, RM16 for two persons. Something different that you can get there. It’s quite spicy if you cannot tolerate spicy food. You can ask them to skip the chili if you want but the taste wouldn’t be the same.

You can also order extra vegetable, this the RM5 stir fried vegetable.

If you want to get good bak kut teh in Kuching, this is one place you can go. They have a variety of drinks too such as bubble milk tea and various desserts.

Travillion Sin Chiew Chicken Rice was previously situated at Point One Travillion. It was previously a stall. They had recently moved to a shoplot at Ang Cheng Ho. The location is behind Kuching Park. You can go there by turning into the junction before the junction at Hock Lee. Then drive to the back of the bakery supplies shop, go straight up and take note of the shops on your left. There’s a bigger kopitiam there called Spring Garden at the same row as Travillion Sin Chiew Chicken Rice.

This picture roughly show you the look of shop from the roadside.

Here is the shop. Red signboard that you will not miss.

Kolomee(RM2.70)

Roasted Chicken Rice(RM3.50), if you opt for drumstick, it’s RM4

Steamed Chciken Rice(RM3.50), if you opt for drumstick, it’s RM4

We know we are late in posting this, post it now better than never. Also we might slow down on our update in food post as you know the fuel prices are increasing, a drastic increment of more than 40% increment for petrol and more than 60% increment for diesel will indirectly make us reconsider about our budget to dine out and would dine out less frequent too. Rest assure that we will update from time to time, just slow down a bit for the time being. Thanks for your support.

Effective on 1st June 2008, the ceiling price for the broken grain Super, 10% and 5% Super Spesial will be standardised nationwide. Coloured stickers will be displayed on the rice packs for easy differentiation.

Here’s the pricings for the controlled rice:
Super 15 rice(blue sticker) is priced RM1.80 per kg
Rice with 10 per cent broken grains (yellow sticker) is priced RM2.70 per kg
Those with five per cent broken grains (purple sticker) is priced RM2.80 per kg.

These are not controlled:
Beras Putih, Super (Import)
Beras Istimewa, e.g. Masmati, Pulut, Beras Perang, Beras Merah, Herba Ponni, Bario etc.
Beras Wangi, Super (Import)
Beras Rebus

However, we just found out that some retailers are trying to earn quick money from the controlled rice nad non controlled rice! They try to cheat their way tru’ by placing labels on the incorrect rice! I think this is a serious offence and the ministry in charged must send thier men to check on it before it gets bad. If you found out any, do report them.

Ten Ichi is now having their June promotion now. You can gather your friends or your family to dine there. Cost spliting is the best way to ensure that you can try most of the food and it’s much more cost effective also.

Let’s see what they have this month:

Beef lovers, you will love this very much! Beef Maki(RM16.90) The beef is medium rare.

Salmon Ni Set(RM12.90) is two pieces of deep fried tempura salmon with mixed vegetables at the bottom that comes with a bowl of rice and a bowl of miso soup. This is very filling dish. The salmon is highly recommended.

As usual, there will be two dishes that are only available on Thursaday and Sunday for only RM9.90 each:

Spider Maki(RM9.90), sushi that consists of soft shell crab, mayonaise and fish roe. The sushi size is big, you will surely cannot finish one sushi in one go.

Hiyashi Ramen(RM9.90), ramen with various ingredients which includes vegetables and seafood. Wasabi lovers will sure love this as it comes with a bowl of sauce consists of wasabi and Japanese soy sauce mixture.

By just ordering the 4 promotion items above is enough to fill 4-6 stomach or more depending on how much of eater are you.

Here are some other food that are available at Ten Ichi if you don’t want to go for the promotion:

Sushi set that costs RM20+ made from locally available fish instead of imported fish. The freshness is guaranteed because imported fish are usally frozen. When you pick it up with chopstick and you can try to shake it, it won’t crumble at all. Good sushi should be this way.

Teppanyaki that is about RM30+. Portion is huge! There are vegetables, prawns, cuttlefish, beef, sardine and few more ingredients that I can’t recall. See the side dishes that comes with it? They are salad, fruits, garlic rice, miso soup, and Japanese kimchi. You can share this with 2-3 people. In case the rice isn’t enough, you can order an extra garlic rice for only RM2.50 per bowl instead of ordering this whole set. The garlic rice is highly recommended.

I’m sure you are smart enough. Do your math, it’s not that expensive and most food can be shared as the portion is quite big. Just split the cost with your friends.
